Hamilton explains his remarks on Bottas and Perez.

After the race, Hamilton informed reporters that he knew the Red Bull was speedy since Perez had closed in on him.

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula One world champion, moved on Monday to clarify remarks he made after Sunday’s Mexico City Grand Prix about Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.

With four races remaining, the Briton, who is 19 points behind Red Bull competitor and Mexico race winner Max Verstappen, took to Instagram to clarify his remarks.

“I stated yesterday that VB left the door open, and naturally people will jump to criticize,” he remarked, referring to his assessment that Bottas allowed room for Verstappen to take the lead into the first corner while on pole.

“We are a team that wins and loses together. We do it together, good or bad, and there is no single person who is accountable for winning or losing. You may be able to defeat us, but you will not be able to break us.

“On to the next one, Valtteri, let’s keep pushing,” says the narrator.

After the race, Hamilton informed reporters that he knew the Red Bull was speedy since Perez had closed in on him.

On Monday, the Mercedes driver stated that he wanted to “ensure that people didn’t misunderstand what I was saying.”

“I admire (Perez) and believe he is doing an excellent job with his new squad. He’s come a long way this season, and I understand how difficult it is to advance with a new squad; it takes time “Added he.

“My remark was simply that in Mexico, due to the low drag we all have, following another automobile is the most difficult thing to do. As a result, there isn’t much overtaking.

“However, he was able to follow them so closely, demonstrating how much more downforce they could carry.”

Perez came in third, with Hamilton coming in second.
