Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander of the UPDF Land Forces, officially launched Voice of Madi Radio in the West Nle district of Madi Okollo today, Saturday.
The General, who was present at the occasion with his wife Charlotte, advocated for the use of media as a transforming tool.
Gen. Kainerugaba said that media, if handled responsibly, may advance a nation. He issued a warning against media abuse, saying that it led to the Rwandan Genocide.
He continued, “You remember how Radio was used in Rwanda to incite people to murder their neighbors.
The District Woman MP Joanne Okia, who came up with the idea to launch the radio, was congratulated by Gen Kainerugaba, the chief guest, who said that the radio would be utilized to communicate revolutionary knowledge in the area and beyond.
Additionally, he promoted the use of media to advertise progressive government initiatives like the parish development model, which fights poverty.
He explained that such an effort would draw more people into the financial system. He claimed that this is an assault—basically a military assault—on subsistence farming.
Therefore, Gen Kainerugaba prayed that a radio station like Voice of Madi, which we are launching today, would support the parish development model and encourage more Madi Okolo residents to engage in commercial farming.
The general also demanded that radio be used to educate the public about domestic abuse, which is a problem in the West Nile region.
He asked males to stop hitting women, pointing out that they were setting a poor example for their kids.
