The Joint Defense Committee meeting between the Kenya Defense Forces and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) was adjourned by the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi (KDF).

At the Sky Hotel in Kampala, this took place.

Participants in the two-day meeting (October 26–27, 2022) discussed important problems that need be addressed to improve bilateral defense and security cooperation between Kenya and their hosts Uganda.

Operations and training, operationalizing the bilateral counterterrorism policy, preventing and combating violent extremism, collaborative cross-border operations against terrorism and other threats, and military activity during peacetime were a few of the topics discussed.

Gen. Mbadi stressed the significance of establishing a strong regional security system that can coordinate and deepen the long-standing and fruitful relationship between the two sister adjacent countries as he concluded the conference.

He praised the Kenyan delegation for displaying a cordial relationship with Uganda and added that cooperation foreshadows an already positive relationship that can be relied upon to accomplish the desired outcomes.

“Excellent relationships with our neighbors can help us overcome some of the obstacles, and right now, maintaining good relationships with your neighbors is the best business.” Another missile to destroy the adversary,” he declared.

He asked the representatives of the two nations to safeguard the current state of peace and stability in their respective nations, arguing that the presence of such draws investment.

Gen. Mbadi also emphasized that his nation is committed to carrying out all initiatives that improve defense and security cooperation that were decided upon at the Joint Defence Committee meeting.

“As Pan Africanists, we have a same perspective on regional security and the advancement of the African people’s economy. This alliance and connection should continue, said Gen. Mbadi.

At the same meeting, Brig Gen Seif S. Rashid, the head of the Kenyan delegation, expressed his deep gratitude for the already-existing brotherhood between Uganda and Kenya, which was demonstrated by the signing of the First Joint Defence Committee Report to strengthen bilateral defense and security cooperation.

He assured the deal will be fully abided by by his nation.

“Both Governments are dedicated to maintaining the historic and friendly friendship between Uganda and Kenya,” he stated.

Brig. Gen. Seif S. Rashid said, “I sincerely hope that this historic engagement will shed much light on the successful implementation of the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA), which will see these two great Republics greatly benefit from the improved cooperation.

Brig Gen. Micheal Nyarwa, the commander of the UPDF Marine Brigade, Brig Gen. Fred Twinamasiko, the director of training, Brig Gen. David R. Lumumba, the director of strategic intelligence, and Mr. Elias Mparana, the principal human resources officer for the UPDF and the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs, also attended the meeting.

Brig Gen Richard Wamua Mwanzia, Brig Gen Stephen Maina Huria, and Lt Col Lillian Ayuma Shigoli were among the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) representatives present.
