Four people have been arrested by the army in connection with a suicide bomber who targeted mourners during Gen Lokech’s funeral.

According to security, Abdul Katumba, alias Ben, was captured last week at the Atimi Kica Hotel in Pader town, and he was targeting mourners for the burial of the former UPDF commander in Somalia.

Four more people have been arrested by the UPDF in connection with the suspected suicide bomber who targeted mourners at the funeral of former Deputy Inspector General of Police Lt Gen Paul Lokech.

According to security, Abdul Katumba, alias Ben, was captured last week at the Atimi Kica Hotel in Pader town, and he was targeting mourners for the burial of the former UPDF commander in Somalia.

The suspect was discovered with a suicide vest and other supplies for manufacturing an improvised explosive device, according to the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (IED).

Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu, deputy UPDF spokesperson, told journalists on Monday that they conducted a raid over the weekend and captured four more individuals.

“The first suspect, Abdul Katumba, was collaborating with others who we believe were planning to sabotage the burial. “We apprehended four more Katumba accomplices,” Kukrungu stated.

He explained that the four individuals were apprehended after Katumba was apprehended earlier, and that they believe the five are members of an ADF slipper cell in Uganda.

“They are assisting security in putting together the details of the job they wish to complete.”

Kakurungu, on the other hand, stated he couldn’t reveal any details, including the identities of the four suspects.

The deputy UPDF spokesperson emphasized that the ADF terror danger still exists and urged the population to remain watchful.

“Any terrorist attack on the country has always been nipped in the bud by us.”
