Four people are killed by a lorry on the Jinja-Kampala route.

On January 14, at least four persons died in a deadly traffic accident along the Jinja-Kampala Highway in Buikwe district.

On January 14, at least four persons died in a deadly traffic accident along the Jinja-Kampala Highway in Buikwe district.

The incident involved a Tata lorry with the registration number UAX 660C and a commuter taxi, according to police.

According to Hellen Butoto Sezibwa region police spokesperson, a lorry traveling from Jinja to Kampala attempted to avoid colliding with a taxi that was overtaking other vehicles, killing four pedestrians and seriously injuring one.

The deceased have been identified as Akumu Faith, a 23-year-old woman from Nsakya A’ zone in Najjembe division, Buikwe district; Anyango Rose, a 14-year-old girl from Najjembe in Buikwe; Awori Promise, a 1-year-old girl and daughter of the deceased (Akumu Faith); and Kimono Shamila, a 3-year-old girl.

According to Butoto, the bodies have been transported to the Kawolo hospital mortuary for postmortem examination, and the search for the Tata lorry driver who fled the scene of the accident is still ongoing.
