Africa had taken up the challenge of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The continent dreams of hosting it again, in 2030, with Morocco as co-host. CAF is behind Morocco, and could even give it a boost with the 2025 AFCON.
Morocco has officially declared its bid to host the 2030 World Cup. The Cherifian Kingdom wants to join Spain and Portugal. And this dream, it can become reality. The Confederation of African Football (CAF), is convinced. Meeting in executive committee this Thursday, April 6, 2023, the body has publicly supported Morocco via a statement. The watchword is clear: all Africa is behind the country of King Mohammed VI.
“The unanimous decision taken by the Executive Committee of CAF to support Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup means that Morocco’s bid is now the bid of the African continent. We are now working to ensure that Africa hosts the FIFA World Cup again and we are committed to working with all national associations and soccer confederations to make this happen,” said CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
So, inevitably, this support of CAF to Morocco raises questions. Because during this executive committee, CAF also announced that the name of the host country of the 2025 AFCON would be known by September. Morocco is a declared candidate to host the continental competition in 2025. Organizing the competition with 24 teams could therefore allow Morocco to pass a test before 2030. The other countries in the running are Algeria, Zambia and the Nigeria-Benin duo.
