Possible wingers for coach Rigobert Song to select in the FIFA World Cup preparation for Cameroon

The technical staff of the Indomitable Lions will have to brave the odds resulting from off-the-pitch administrative squabbles in order to meticulously hand pick a 26-man squad for the tournament as Cameroon makes its final push toward the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Choupo Moting, Andre Onana, Zambo Anguissa, and Christian Bassogog are just a few of the players who coach Rigobert Song had performing at their peak during this vital period.

Rigobert Song experimented with several formations in his most recent two friendlies against Uzbekistan and South Korea, first using a 3-4-3 formation and then switching to a 4-3-3 configuration.

The gaffer insisted on three players up front—a center forward and two wingers—in all of the tactical adjustments, which says a lot about the way he likes his game to be played. On those two instances, Moumi Ngamaleu and Bryan Mbeumo served as Vincent Aboubakar’s two wingers. The present team’s results and performances throughout those contests will leave more to be desired, particularly in the offensive area.

As the trip to Qatar draws near, head coach Rigobert Song should keep an eye on the following four wingers: Toko Ekambi, Moumi Ngamaleu, Bryan Mbeumo, and Christian Bassogog.

Karl Toko Ekambi is a winger who has recently performed well for Cameroon despite having a rocky club career.

K. T. O. Ekambi

Prior to scoring the goal that sent Cameroon to the World Cup against Algeria in Blida, the former Villarreal player scored five goals at the AFCON tournament held in Cameroon in January of this year. Ekambi has scored 7 goals for the national team this year alone, bringing his total to 12 goals in 50 appearances. The winger’s experience with French club Olympique Lyon has not been pleasant. Karl Toko has been relegated to the bench under new coach Laurent Blanc, and he hasn’t received enough playing time in the past month because playing time has become scarce in Lyon’s starting 11.

The Lyon player has so far in Ligue 1 scored four goals and provided one assist for the French team Lyon.

Abel Mbeumo

Given Bryan Mbeumo’s success with Brentford this season, as well as the previous two seasons, it was a big fight to bring him to the den, but it was well worth it.

In Cameroon’s two friendlies against Uzbekistan and South Korea in September, Mbeumo displayed glimpses of the potential diamond he may develop into. Even though he didn’t score in either game, his percussions from the wings and misfired shots gave the crowd something to remember.

With club side Brentford, the former France youth international has played 13 games, recording 2 goals and 1 assist.

Bassogog agreement with Nigeria

Christian Bassogog, the 2017 AFCON MVP, has been on the rise since joining club-side SH Shenhua in the Chinese premier division tournament.

The winger, who is 27 years old, has participated in 19 games and contributed 7 goals—4 goals and 3 assists. Bassogog is the most prolific winger for the Lions heading into the World Cup, and if he shows up, along with his experience, it is thought that he would be an asset to the Indomitable in group G.

Cameroun

Even if Moumi Ngamaleu’s performance this season with his new team, Dynamo Moscow, has been a little unimpressive, he has proven to be a “galactico” in national colors. Both of the winger’s goals and assists came on game day 15 versus Khimki. He participated in both games last month against South Korea and Uzbekistan but was unable to repeat his typical success from the wings.

Song has a list of four people he can rely on, with Bassogog of SH Shenhua being the most effective.
