FDC: “Fall of Kabul to Taliban offers lessons to Uganda”

According to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), the Taliban’s capture of Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, should serve as a warning to all nations, including Uganda, that are involved in costly overseas operations.

During a press conference, FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said those who accompanied America to Afghanistan have been ashamed by the turmoil that the US exit has brought in Afghanistan.

“The exact individuals (terrorists) who America and its allies went to Afghanistan to combat are now cooperating with them. We should not take satisfaction in occupying or assisting in the occupation of other countries,” he added.

Following the fall of Kabul, the United States has requested a number of nations, including Uganda, to assist it house thousands of Afghans fleeing the country while they are processed for their last voyage to America.

Many nations, like the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Germany, have agreed to assist America by hosting these refugees.

Ssemujju stated that the FDC sympathizes with the thousands of Afghans who have been subjected to conflict for the past six decades as a result of their country being used as a staging ground for foreign proxy warfare.

“As a result, we would be prepared to provide them with any help they require, including hosting them in our nation. “The we ask is that all required health/Covid-19 standards be followed, and that their settlement or hosting be in accordance with international refugee conventions,” he added.
