This comes after sporadic rainfall in most sections of the country since January 14, 2022, following a dry season accompanied by recent high temperatures. The present rains, according to UNMA Executive Officer Dr David Elweru, are a result of the strengthening of Southern Pressure Systems, which relocated the rainy belt over the country, resulting in the observed rainfall occurrences.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Dr. Elweru stated that the current rainfall is projected to gradually decrease over most regions of the country over the next week, with dry weather returning until the end of February.
According to Dr. Elweru, the present rains, which span the months of December, January, and February, are mostly bright, dry, and foggy in most parts of the country.
The Authority’s Principal Public Relations Officer, Lillian Nkwenge, says the farming community in the country can use the current rains to prepare land for the first seasonal rains, which are expected between March and May.
UNMA is a government-funded, semi-autonomous organization tasked with providing meteorological and climate services, as well as analyzing scientific research findings and providing climate change advice.
