Face masks help prevent spread of respiratory infections: study
A new study released this week suggests that using face masks can aid in the prevention of the spread of respiratory illnesses.
All studies on the subject conducted between 1981 and 2022 were thoroughly reviewed in the study conducted by the University of Helsinki in collaboration with Stanford University, the University of Missouri, and Swansea University.
The researchers examined nearly 400,000 individuals from various countries and 2,400 prior research articles in total, according to a press release from the University of Helsinki on Friday.
The researchers came to the conclusion that using a face mask in conjunction with good hand hygiene can reduce respiratory infections, especially in communal settings.
Hanna Ollila, a researcher from the University of Helsinki, stated that the findings “support the international scientific consensus on the benefits of face masks in the prevention of COVID-19 infection and other airborne diseases.”
The study, which was funded by the Academy of Finland, was recently published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE.
