The explosion occurred on the European side of the city at 4:20 p.m. local time (1:20 p.m. GMT), according to Yerlikaya’s Twitter account.
Without providing precise numbers, the governor remarked, “We have casualties and wounded.”
According to local media, the sound of the explosion reverberated through the entire historic district of Beyoglu and created widespread terror.
Police, firefighters, and ambulances have arrived at the explosion site, but the reason of the explosion remains unknown.
