Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, expressed his contentment for Andreas Pereira, a Fulham footballer who had a remarkable debut season with his new team.
Pereira, who had been a senior player for eight years at United after being developed through their youth academy, departed from Old Trafford last summer and joined Marco Silva’s Cottagers.
He immediately became an essential member of the team and has contributed two goals and six assists in 27 league games this season. With Pereira’s help, Fulham has successfully avoided relegation concerns, and they still have 11 games left to play.
Fulham is currently placed ninth in the standings with 39 points, and they have a chance to secure a spot in European football for the next season. Erik ten Hag, Pereira’s former manager, has commented on his impressive performance at Fulham. Prior to United’s FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham at Old Trafford, Ten Hag mentioned in a statement (quotes taken from the club’s official website) that he has known Pereira for a long time and that he is an excellent player. Ten Hag had coached Pereira during his time in the youth team at PSV before he joined Manchester United.
“I am really happy for him and that he is progressing well. I think it was the right step for him as I think he has to play on a regular basis.”
Pereira departed United without speaking to Ten Hag, the Brazilian told ESPN earlier this week, but added that he was ‘determined’ to leave the club for pastures new anyway.
He explained: “At United I had a lot of memories; good memories, bad memories.
“It’s been 10 years at the club. I arrived when I was 16 so, you know, a young boy. It was an amazing ride but I got to the stage where I thought maybe it was best not to stay.
“I wanted to feel more loved and I wanted to play every game. What Fulham offered me and what Marco offered me, it was the perfect opportunity.”
