Erik ten Hag Confirms He Will Hold Talks with Andre Onana After Horrible Display Against Galatasaray
Following Andre Onana’s disastrous performance against Galatasaray, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed he will speak with the goalkeeper.
United lost 2-3 at Old Trafford in their second Champions League match of the season.
The club is currently at the bottom of Group A with zero points.
Onana contributed to United’s defeat at the hands of Galatasaray. The Cameroonian may have prevented the second and third goals scored by the Turkish giants.
His hospital pass also directly contributed to Casemiro’s dismissal.
After the match, Ten Hag spoke to TNT about the former Inter Milan player and his difficult start with the Red Devils.
He said, “I think I need to talk to more players but I need to talk with Andre of course. I will encourage him and I have to back him. He’s a great goalkeeper.”
Despite mounting pressure on himself and his players following a poor start to the season, Ten Hag also called for teamwork.
United’s difficulties are due to a mentality that makes it impossible to maintain a lead after scoring, according to him.
“Some fundamental errors, you can’t allow them at this level. We are all together, it’s not only one, it’s as a team we make errors. We were twice up, and you don’t expect this outcome. We expect more, together, the players with me, all, together.”
Rasmus Hojlund was commended for grabbing a brace.
“Rasmus [Højlund] scored two great goals. We’re happy with that but of course but we didn’t win the game. He can be really happy with his goals.”
Ten Hag responded, “That’s up to Marcus,” when asked about Marcus Rashford’s poor attempt to square the ball to Fernandes inside the box.
He added, “In such a situation, he must make a choice.”
