Erik ten Hag becoming ‘increasingly impatient’ with 23yo Man United star: report
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to oversee a major purge of his current playing squad, putting players like Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire in jeopardy.
Erik ten Hag wants the Manchester United hierarchy to be more ruthless in the transfer market this summer as he seeks to overhaul his playing squad – and Jadon Sancho, who cost £73 million, is just one of the players whose long-term future is in jeopardy.
The Red Devils have had a successful season under Ten Hag, but the Dutchman is eager to continue his rebuilding project in the summer transfer window and will expect funds to reshape his squad regardless of whether they finish in the top four.
Ten Hag would be willing to part ways with a number of players at the end of the season, many of whom are former first-team regulars. And, for the first time, it appears that Sancho’s long-term future is in jeopardy.
Ten Hag is growing ‘impatient’ with the former Borussia Dortmund winger, who has struggled to replicate the form that catapulted him to the top of the world’s forward rankings during his time in the Bundesliga.
After missing the club’s mid-season training camp in Spain to train alone in the Netherlands with coaches recommended by Ten Hag, the 23-year-old has made just five appearances in the second half of the season.
Despite scoring in his first game back after the break, the England winger has struggled to make an impact in the first-team fold.
While it remains to be seen whether Sancho will be given more time to save his Old Trafford career, Ten Hag is ready to let go of a number of players who have fallen out of favour at the end of the current season.
After losing his first-team spot, club captain Harry Maguire will be made available for transfer, along with Brandon Williams, Alex Telles, and Anthony Martial. If Eric Bailly fails to make the required number of appearances to trigger a permanent move to Marseille, he will be added to the transfer list.
The club is also expected to consider offers for academy graduate Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest. Last week, it was reported that clubs had already’made contact’ about a permanent deal for the goalkeeper.
Newcastle is also interested in Scott McTominay, though it is unclear whether United would make a deal for the Scottish midfielder. The club intends to facilitate loan moves for Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri next season, while Amad’s future is unknown after impressing on loan at Sunderland.
