Kampala, Uganda 21st November 2022: Anthony Kituuka has been named the new Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda Limited, effective immediately.
The announcement was made by the board of directors and comes after Equity Group Holdings Plc promoted Samuel Kirubi from managing director to group chief operating officer.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony Kituuka as the new Managing Director of Equity Bank Uganda with immediate effect, subject to Bank of Uganda approval, said Mark Ocitti, Chairman of Equity Bank Uganda, in welcoming Mr. Kituuka to his new position.
“We are convinced that Anthony will build on his institutional expertise and collaborate with the staff of Equity Uganda and his immediate predecessor to advance Equity Uganda to the next stage of growth. We have faith that he will be able to lead the bank to grow and serve more clients in pursuit of our objective of improving lives, granting dignity, and increasing prospects for wealth creation thanks to his experience in banking and the business sector.
“On behalf of the Board, we thank Samuel Kirubi for his leadership that enabled Equity Bank Uganda to turn things around and expand to become the 6th largest bank in terms of deposits and assets and move from position 16 to the 5th most profitable bank in Uganda in a record seven years,” continued Ocitti.
Athanasius Kituuka
Kituuka held the position of Executive Director of Equity Bank Uganda Limited from 2016 until his appointment.
From 2014 to 2016, he was the Executive Director for Regional Subsidiaries. He has been a banker for over fifteen years as a career.
He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics and Applied Economics from Makerere University in Uganda and an MBA in Oil and Gas from Middlesex University in London.
He has earned the Fellowship of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and has completed a number of executive leadership programs at the Gordon Institute of Business and INSEAD in addition to an Advanced Management Program from Strathmore, Lagos, and IESE (Spain) Business Schools.
