Ebola: Museveni Assures Visitors That Uganda Is Safe

All foreign visitors and tourists have received assurances from President Museveni that it is safe to go to and stay in the nation.

This comes after reports that some visitors were delaying or canceling their trips to Uganda due to an Ebola outbreak in some districts.

In a televised address on Tuesday, the President stated, “I have been informed that some tourists have cancelled their visits to Uganda and postponed hotel bookings while some international conferences have been cancelled.”

This is unnecessary and sad.

Tourists, members of the international community, conference planners, and Ugandans were reassured by Museveni that the government had taken steps to manage the spread.

He said that just six out of 146 districts in Uganda are affected by the Ebola outbreak.

The President declared, “I want to reassure the world community that the Ugandan government is doing all necessary to contain the Ebola outbreak and prevent exportation to other countries.

In order to control some of the new illnesses, he announced new measures, especially in the communities of the Kassanda and Mubende districts.

He gave the Health Ministry instructions to, among other things, increase the Boda Boda drivers’ awareness of the risks associated with conveying passengers and the Ebola virus.
