During the Local Defense Unit Personnel recruitment practice in Lira city, an applicant fell and died.
Solomon Amone, a 28-year-old inhabitant of Adyel in Lira city’s West division, was killed.
Amone fainted and died after only 2.5 kilometers of the 5-kilometer run.
He had finished the first round of the recruitment process, which included screening, and was academically competent.
In Lira, a team from the Uganda Persons’s Defense Force’s 4th Division is interviewing people who want to join the Local Defense Unit.
235 persons from Alebtong, Dokolo, Lira district, and city are expected to participate in the two-day activity.
The applicant’s death was confirmed by Flavia Terimulungi, a spokesperson for the UPDF 5th Infantry Division, who said the dead may have been taking medication for an illness that they have yet to determine.
The occurrence was termed as sad by Lawrence Egole, the Lira Resident City Commissioner, who said the applicant died before he could be carried to the hospital.
The body of the deceased was brought to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
