Two Ugandan officials have been banned from football for a period of 25 years.

After being found guilty of match rigging, the local football governing body, FUFA, has banned two Ugandan club officials from engaging in any football related activity for a total of 25 years.

When he breached Articles 27, 31 and 44 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code related to the manipulation of football matches and competitions, failure to report, and breach of general duties of conduct, the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee banned Police FC marketing and Chief Executive Officer Abraham Luzzi from participating in any football related football activity for ten years.

Mr. Luzzi was found guilty of approaching a player with the intent of influencing and manipulating the outcome of the Uganda Cup match between Five Stars FC and Tooro United FC, according to a statement released by FUFA.

Tooro United defeated Fifth Stars FC 8-7 on penalties in a game played at the Works Playground in Entebbe in January after the game finished in a barren draw in normal time of the Uganda Cup round of 64.

Luzzi was allegedly implicated in manipulating the game, according to FUFA.

In a similar line, the Ugandan football regulatory body has barred James Kaweesa from participating in any football-related activities, both local and international, for 15 years for his role in manipulating the Uganda Cup round of 16.

He, like Luzzi, is accused of approaching a player in order to sway the outcome of the game.

David Isabirye, a sports journalist, was also barred from participating in any football-related activity for two years as a result of the same controversy.

Isabirye is accused of failing to disclose a match rigging incident in the same game that he covered as a journalist, according to FUFA.

“Isabirye also failed to present valid and appropriate proof to prove that he had carried out his responsibility to report the illegal activity,” according to FUFA.

The officials and the journalist are expected to appeal the judgment of the local football governing body.
