Diana Atwine rewarded for ‘exceptional’ role in COVID-19 fight
Dr. Atwine, speaking immediately after receiving her award, said she values kids and was moved by the gesture.
Dr. Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, has been recognized for her “exceptional and perseverance” in the fight against Covid-19 in Uganda.
On Thursday, the Office of Uganda’s Ambassador for Women and Girls presented her with the honor in Salaama, Munyonyo. The event was held as part of the annual International Youth Day celebrations, which take place on August 12.
Dr. Atwine, speaking immediately after receiving her award, said she values kids and was moved by the gesture.
Dr. Atwine also urged the country’s youth to maintain a positive attitude toward work, as this is the only way to attain their objectives.
Dr. Atwine also commissioned Princess Diana Community Health Centre, an initiative of the Office of the Ambassador for Women and Girls, to serve vulnerable women and girls affected by Covid-19, at the same occasion.
Leaders should encourage such efforts, according to Dr. Atwine, who also stated that she will always support youth programs.
The award comes amid public calls for the health ministry’s permanent secretary to resign for the mismanagement of COVID-19 monies.
Despite the fact that Dr. Atwine has remained silent about the allegations of financial mismanagement, Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng remarked last month that people should cease “demoralizing” health workers who are doing their best.
