Covid-19 crisis has given us opportunity to reset education sector
Besigye said in a statement that the Covid-19 outbreak has exacerbated the education issue, and that many parents will be unable to pay their children's education.
As the argument over reopening schools continues, Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former president of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has stated that it is critical to consider the severe need for a broad reset of the whole education sector.
Besigye said in a statement that the Covid-19 outbreak has exacerbated the education issue, and that many parents will be unable to pay their children’s education.
“It will take a particular effort to convince the low-paid instructors to focus on teaching once more. Students who have missed two years of school will require extra attention in order to get them back on track. The pandemic-caused catastrophe provides us with the opportunity to do so. In a statement, he stated, “It can’t be business as usual.”
According to Besigye, private schools, which play a significant part in Uganda’s education sector, have been severely harmed by the prolonged school closures, and many will be unable to reopen without special government assistance.
He stated that the country must address these issues, as well as the content of the children’s education curriculum, right away.
Besigye proposed that a major rethinking of education finance and management be undertaken, noting that Uganda has the resources, but that priorities must shift now.
“In the meantime, teachers and other critical social care workers are leaving the public sector or providing subpar services. This is a rallying cry for all parents, teachers, and support staff, students, and all good people. “Let us make this a special occasion for our country to have a grand reset,” he urged.
During the Covid-19 issue, Besigye was quite outspoken, offering many proposals on how to deal with the pandemic.
