Chinese spokeswoman strongly rejects NATO chief’s inaccurate comments about Taiwan

Friday saw a strong response from China to erroneous statements made about Taiwan by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Compatriots from Taiwan are our brothers and sisters because they are a part of China, according to Zhu Fenglian, a representative of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

To protect China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, she stated, “We have acted in accordance with the law to punish separatist elements seeking “Taiwan independence” and resist external forces’ involvement.”

When asked to comment on Stoltenberg’s false claims that “China is threatening Taiwan,” she made the response.

The spokeswoman claimed that those who disseminate such inaccurate statements attempt to use the Taiwan issue as an excuse to meddle in China’s domestic affairs.

Zhu pleaded with relevant institutions and people to correct errors, steadfastly support the one-China concept and the fundamental rule of international relations, and avoid sending the wrong signals to groups pushing for “Taiwan independence.”
