Chelsea Reportedly Interested in Onana Swap Deal and David Raya for Goalkeeper Position

It has been reported that Chelsea is willing to trade their goalkeeper Edouard Mendy with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana. Reports suggest that Chelsea may offer Mendy as a part of the deal to sweeten it, although they are also willing to pay £35m for Onana.

Mendy has not been a regular player for Chelsea since Graham Potter’s arrival in late 2022.

When the new manager arrived, Mendy was out due to injury, which allowed Kepa Arrizabalaga to get a rare opportunity to start a Premier League game. Kepa made good use of this chance and has since become the regular starting goalkeeper for Chelsea.

Even when Mendy has recovered from his injury, he has not had many opportunities to play and has mostly been on the bench.

Chelsea is reportedly interested in exchanging Mendy for Onana. Mendy did participate in the World Cup for his country, but his performance during the tournament was not impressive. Nevertheless, his reputation was not damaged as much as Onana’s, who was sent home from the tournament after a dispute with the Cameroon manager during the group stages. Despite this, Onana has maintained his impressive form at the club level and played a crucial role in Inter’s Champions League victory over Porto in the Round of 16.

According to recent reports, Chelsea is considering several options for their goalkeeper position next season, including a swap deal involving their out-of-favor goalkeeper and Onana. Despite Kepa’s good form, Chelsea is also reportedly interested in Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, with Cesar Azpilicueta trying to persuade him to move to West London.
