Chelsea might face a world record settlement if Todd Boehly reverses Graham Potter’s decision.

With Sunday’s defeat by Tottenham Hotspur, the head coach is under close inspection, although the club would have to pay a significant compensation package if they were to replace him.

Todd Boehly, the chairman of Chelsea, wants to give the troubled head coach more time to make things right.

But, if the 47-year-performance old’s does not soon improve and Chelsea decides to fire him, it will cost the team an estimated £50 million, setting a record payout for a managerial firing.

Also, they paid Brighton £22 million in damages in September to release him and a five-person backroom crew from their contracts. A world record charge also occurred.

Chelsea are accustomed to paying out significant sums to head coaches who were fired under Roman Abramovich’s leadership; the most recent payment was £26.6 million to Antonio Conte and his staff in 2018. But, Potter’s pay would nearly double if his contract were to be terminated.

After his team’s drubbing at the hands of rivals Tottenham on Sunday, Potter was under even greater pressure.

Their losing skid now stands at three games, which is a six-game total.

Chelsea shelled out a staggering £320 million in the January transfer window, but Potter is finding it difficult to plan his attack, as the team has only managed four goals in 11 games since the new year.

When Potter disclosed how the situation has impacted his mental health, a petition has been started asking Boehly and the club’s owners to fire him.

On Friday, Potter said, “I’ve been sitting here for four months answering questions about pressure.” “You have to be willing to take criticism when the results are what they are. Yet that does not mean it is at all simple. Your family life, mental health, and personality all suffer. It’s tough.

Potter said he had spoken with West Ham manager David Moyes about how to handle the pressure and abuse and that he had received emails from individuals wishing him dead.

It won’t be enjoyable, according to Potter, if someone swears at you at work. “If you’re called the worst member in the club’s history. Everyone is interested in what others think. We have a biological need to connect with others. I’m here to do well. There is this absurdity, and I don’t care. “Where’s your evidence on that,” I would reply.

“You can ask my family how my life has been for me and for them, not that I’d let you do that. It has not at all been enjoyable. I comprehend. When the team doesn’t win, fans go home angry, but I can guarantee you that my life has been very typical for the past three to four months.
