After beating Porto and defeating Haaland, Chelsea will learn who they will face in the quarterfinals of the Champions League on Friday. Graham Potter is looking forward to finding out who his squad will be up against in the next round.
Chelsea has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the third consecutive season after coming from behind to defeat Borussia Dortmund in the first leg. The game at Stamford Bridge was seen as Graham Potter’s biggest test to yet, but his team was able to secure an important win.
Chelsea’s attention now goes to the quarterfinals, when some of the best clubs in Europe will square off. Real Madrid eliminated Chelsea at this stage of the previous season’s competition, winning 5-4 in overtime. West Londoners are, however, anticipating a campaign similar to the one that saw them upset Manchester City to win the competition in 2020–21.
Chelsea, who participated in the first round of round-of-16 matches, was one of the first clubs to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League. Along with Benfica, who defeated Club Brugge 7-1, they guaranteed their passage into the next round.
The next day, Bayern Munich and AC Milan respectively continued to lead PSG and Tottenham Hotspur. Tuesday saw Manchester City defeat RB Leipzig handily at home, with Erling Haaland’s five goals breaking multiple records. Inter Milan eliminated FC Porto in the meantime to go to the quarterfinals.
The locations of the other two quarterfinal slots are still up in the air as Liverpool will play Real Madrid on Tuesday and Napoli will play Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday. On Friday, March 17, following these games, the draw for the quarterfinals will take place. The prospective opponents for Chelsea are listed below, with the result of the first leg shown in brackets:
Benfica
Bayern Munich

There are no longer any seeds in the event, and teams from the same nation can now play each other. In a similar vein, teams that competed in the same group are now permitted to face off, before this was not allowed in the round of 16.
