In support of Makerere University’s centenary celebrations, Centenary Bank has donated Shs52 million.

On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Centenary Group Chairman Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu, the Bank’s Managing Director Fabian Kasi, and the subsidiary heads presented a donation to Makerere University.

Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu said, “In a special way, allow me to welcome you, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, and your delegation to Mapeera House on behalf of the Centenary family.”

“Ideally, we would have come to Makerere, but we thought it best to hold the function here because, as far as I know, none of you have ever visited Mapeera House.” On the contrary, every member of our team has visited Makerere in some capacity.”

“We are pleased to note that Centenary Bank and Makerere already have a strong relationship,” he continued. We do have a branch there, and thanks to your help, it’s doing fairly well.”

Another interesting fact to note, according to Prof. Ssentamu, is that over 80% of the staff at the Centenary Bank are Makerere University graduates.

“I’d like to let you know that Centenary Group is willing to provide internship opportunities to university students.”

“Accept our humble contribution of 52 million Uganda shillings to help you achieve #MakerereAt100,” he added. If it hadn’t been for COVID 19, this donation would have been much larger.”

According to Prof. Ssentamu, this contribution will be 100 times greater at the next celebration.

“As Makerere University celebrates 100 years of excellence in building a transformed society, we look forward to strengthening our partnership.”

Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University, thanked Prof. Ddumba Ssentamu for inviting them to Mapeera House.

“I congratulate Centenary Bank on its steady growth over the years to almost become Uganda’s largest bank,” he said.

“As we commemorate #MakerereAt100, it is also a time to remember our forefathers, such as the Late Nsibirwa and Frank Kalimuzo, who made great sacrifices for Makerere.”

“We are truly happy and grateful for Centenary Bank’s show of solidarity towards the #MakerereAt100 celebrations,” he continued, “and I pray that this friendship continues over the next 100 years.”
