Azawi will represent Africa in the 2022 Global YouTube Black Voices class.

Azawi's debut album, African Music, was published a few weeks ago and instantly became the number one album on Apple Music, with over three million views on YouTube in her brief career.

Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, is a Ugandan vocalist and composer who is one of the eight artists chosen to represent Africa in the YouTube black voices music class of 2022.

Azawi’s debut album, African Music, was published a few weeks ago and instantly became the number one album on Apple Music, with over three million views on YouTube in her brief career.

The singer is best known for her famous song ‘Repeat it,’ which has 2.3 million views, Quinamo, which has 1 million views, Slow Dancing, which has 800,000 views, and her most recent release, ‘My Year,’ which has 700,000 views.

The singer’s participation in the YouTube black voices class will be another another achievement.

The #YouTubeBlackVoices Music Class of 2022, supported by the #YouTube Black Voices Fund, is a development initiative meant to actively support and mentor black musicians, composers, and producers throughout the world.

The addition of songwriters and producers to the 2022 class, according to organizers, underscores Youtube’s continued and expanded efforts to support black artists on the platform.

The class will be divided into two streams, one for artists and one for songwriters and producers, with the goal of providing resources for up-and-coming black musicians, songwriters, and producers to flourish on YouTube.

Participants in the class will receive specialized partner assistance, seed cash to invest in the growth of their channels, and opportunity to participate in training and networking activities focusing on production, fan engagement, and wellness.

They will also have opportunities to expand their catalogs and collaborate with other global artists, songwriters, and producers who have been selected to participate in the program over the next six months.

“African music is sweeping the globe, and the #YouTubeBlackVoices Fund is a chance to celebrate and foster African artistry while also assisting songwriters, producers, and performers in sharing their skill with global audiences,” said Addy Awofisayo, YouTube’s head of music for Sub-Saharan Africa.

CKay (Nigeria),DJ Lag (South Africa),Elaine (South Africa),Major League DJz (South Africa),Omah Lay (Nigeria),Priime Beatz (Nigeria), andTelz (Nigeria) are among the other African musicians in this year’s YouTube black voices class (Nigeria).
