Bruno Fernandes has supported Arsenal’s action in hopes that Fabio Vieira can live up to expectations and succeed in the Premier League.

The Portugal U21 international signed a five-year contract with Mikel Arteta’s team last month, marking the conclusion of a £34 million deal. He joined from Porto.

In addition to scoring several goals and providing 16 assists for Porto last season, the 22-year-old emerged as their leading creative outlet after Luis Diaz left for Liverpool in January.

It showed a breakthrough campaign for Vieira, who had only made his first-team debut in June 2020 before dominating first-team practices from December onwards.

Former West Ham defender and current Portugal international Jose Fonte urged allies to become “exceptionally enthusiastic” at Vieira’s appearance, and teammate Fernandes backed up similar claims.

During a press conference in Portugal, the Manchester United player said: “I invite all Portuguese players who travel to another country. I want to believe that he can try his hardest to please, aside from myself.

“Fábio has a ton of value, and that’s what has been proving, whether in the Under-21s or with FC Porto, he has had fantastic stats and great exhibitions.

“I hope he succeeds like all the other Portuguese people worldwide. We must start valuing our own possessions, and I am confident that Fábio will manage to do so despite the pressure to always be one step ahead.

While the club continues to pursue a trade for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, Arsenal is expected to make it happen for Gabriel Jesus soon.
