Following his appointment earlier this month, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has taken over as the defense and UPDF spokesperson.
He succeeds Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu, who has been serving in an acting capacity since Brig Flavia Byekwaso was sent to the National Defence College in Buikwe for a year’s training last month.
The UPDF’s Chief of Personnel and Administration, Maj Gen George Igumba, spoke at the takeover ceremony and urged the new officer bearer to lead the force to greater heights, citing his energy and charm.
“Brig Gen Kulayigye’s reappearance adds flavor and energy to what has already been offered. The dynamics have shifted and the paradigm has shifted, but I am certain that you will fit in with those who have come before you, especially since you have worked in the same position before,” Maj Gen Igumba added. Between 2005 until 2013, Brig Gen Kulayigye was the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence.
Maj Gen Igumba praised Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu for doing admirably while acting as a fort commander.
“You’ve held the fort for nearly two months, and by my standards, you’ve done admirably.”
Brig Kulayigye, the new defence spokesperson, thanked the appointing authority for putting their faith in him for this position.
He also expressed gratitude to Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu for directing the office while he was serving in an acting capacity.
Given that the UPDF is the government’s center of gravity, Kulayigye remarked that the changing circumstances necessitate teamwork, awareness, and maximum cooperation.
Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defence and the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the role of spokesperson, and congratulated Brig Gen Kulayigye on his appointment and wished him well throughout his tour of duty.
Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu, the deputy defense spokesperson, has been retained.
The UPDF Land Forces spokesperson, Lt Col Chris Magezi, the Air Force spokesperson, Maj Edward Birungi, public relations officers from military units, and other employees from the defence spokesperson’s office were present at the handover.
