Bobi Wine’s NUP is not present as the opposition forms a new pressure group to force Museveni out.
At the launch, Besigye stated that the new front will launch a final offensive against the present NRM administration.
Opposition political groups in Uganda, coordinated by the Forum for Democratic Change, have launched the People’s Front for Transition (PFT), a new pressure group aimed at deposing President Museveni.
Dr. Kizza Besigye was named national chairwoman of the pressure group during the launch, which took place at the JEEMA headquarters in Mengo. Kampala Lord Mayor was named the first national deputy chairperson of the pressure group.
At the launch, Besigye stated that the new front will launch a final offensive against the present NRM administration.
“This battle has dragged on for a long time. There have been many words spoken, and now is the time to put them into action. We’ve banded together to address a crisis that this country is experiencing. We must all take a stand against it. We’ve tried various methods, and I’m an expert on them. “We realized that an election would not get us far since the entire country is enslaved,” Besigye explained.
Uganda has been in a crisis of ignorance, disease, and poverty, according to the opposition strongman, for the last 59 years of independence, a state he claims has worsened in the last 35 years of the current regime.
He stated categorically that until something is done, the situation will remain unchanged.
“The rationale for this front (PFT) is the current level of crises in our country.
“The catastrophe we are facing today did not emerge in the last few days, but has been building for 59 years,” Besigye remarked.
“The country is experiencing a crisis, which we must address.” We’ve come to defend our freedom to vote. We used that voting path at first until we chose to go a different route.”
The new pressure group, according to Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, can only be compared to the 2011 walk to work campaign.
“This is not an electoral alliance, but it has been thoroughly thought out that this platform serves a certain purpose.” This is similar to going for a walk to work. It is about Uganda and people together for a shared goal. We are focused on liberating our country, not on any election cycle. “Let us concentrate on the path we wish to take,” Lukwago stated.
Bobi Wine’s NUP is missing.
Robert Kyagulanyi’s National Unity Platform was not represented at the launch of the new pressure group.
FDC president Patrick Oboi Amuriat remarked during the launch that this is a new front for opposition political parties to pledge themselves to removing the current government by means other than elections.
Other political parties (not present at the event) are welcome to join the new pressure group, he said.
“As FDC, we have seen this struggle through thick and thin. It is apparent that elections alone will not be enough to remove a tyrant from power. Even the most hopeful comrades (read NUP) who predicted that the tyrant would simply be run over after 2021 can speak to the fact that this cannot be accomplished in an election,” Amuriat stated.
“It’s not about positions, titles, or who leads us; it’s about what we can do together to make the struggle a reality.” We want to tell NUP that if they want to make a difference, now is the moment to unite.”
Other political parties should not wait to be invited or begged to join the pressure group, but instead come aboard on their own, according to Amuriat, also known as POA.
“It’s a horrible spirit for a struggle for us (pressure group) to go to them first.” We must all come together and speak with one voice. Let’s start by spearing the animal and then figure out how to share it. Those who are not a part of this group are invited to join in so that the struggle can continue.”
Amuriat’s sentiments were echoed by Walter Lubega Mukaaku, who was introduced as a representative of the Democratic Party bloc.
“This is a front that embraces all political groups, including the National Union of Progressives (NUP), which is the opposition leader in parliament,” he stated.
Peter Walubiri (UPC), John Ken Lukyamuzi (Conservative Party), Saddam Gayira (People’s Progressive Party), and Elton Joseph Mabirizi (past presidential candidate) were among those who attended the launch.
According to the pressure group’s chairperson, they would speak with all stakeholders around the country before declaring their next line of action in the next three weeks.
