Maddox Sematimba, a reggae icon, and Azawi, a vocalist, were the headlining acts at the Bayimba Reggae Fest, which was the first time the two performed on the same stage, bringing together the greatest of Uganda’s past and present reggae music industry.
The event, which was sponsored by Pilsner Lager, was organized by the Bayimba Cultural Foundation and took place on Lunkulu Island near Mukono on the 5th and 6th of February 2022.
Reggae music fans drove to Mukono, then took a 10-minute boat ride from Kibanga Port to the island, which offered a spectacular view of Lake Victoria’s amazing splendor.
The festival featured campfires, a stroll around the island, and live performances by the Nilotika Cultural Ensemble, the Blood Brothers, and Jamal in honor of Bob Marley’s birthday.
Azawi, who performed an enthralling concert that included songs from her latest album, African Music, kept the crowd captivated.
Maddox Ssematimba took the stage after her, performing songs such as Munakyalo, Namagembe, and the fan favorite – Dembe.
“Pilsner Lager is a reward for the average Ugandan who takes courageous steps every day to reach greatness,” said Edgar Kihumuro, Pilsner Lager Brand Manager. “This event is yet another opportunity for us to develop a deeper relationship with our customers through reggae music.”
He went on to say that the Pilsner brand is happy to help artists and musicians who have been out of job for nearly two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced pubs, concerts, and entertainment venues to close their doors.
