Arsenal is in ‘concrete talks’ with a bargain midfield signing as the 36-cap international seeks to leave the Bundesliga.

According to one source, Arsenal is one of several clubs in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow, who is looking for a new club outside of Germany.

Sow has been with Frankfurt since July 2019, having previously played for FC Zurich, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Young Boys. The 26-year-old cost Frankfurt €10 million four years ago and has proven to be an astute acquisition for the Bundesliga club.

Sow has played an average of 37 matches per season at the Waldstadion. He has made 38 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three times.

Despite becoming an important player for Frankfurt, Sow believes that the summer is the best time for him to leave. He wants to advance his career by potentially joining a team competing for domestic or Champions League glory.

Arsenal, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest are the main clubs vying to bring the 36-time Switzerland international to England, according to the Daily Mirror.

Clearly, if Sow wants to leave Frankfurt for a club competing for major trophies, Arsenal or Newcastle would be better options than Forest.

Florian Plettenberg, a Sky Sport Germany journalist, has provided an update on the player’s situation. He has stated that Sow intends to leave Frankfurt at the end of the season.

His contract expires in June 2024, and there is little chance of it being renewed. Sow understands that without new terms, Frankfurt will have to sell him this summer or risk him leaving on a free transfer next year.

Arsenal’s target is in ‘concrete talks’ about his future.

According to Plettenberg, Sow and his entourage have held “concrete talks” about a transfer with teams from England, France, and Italy. Given that Arsenal is one of the main clubs interested in him, such discussions are very likely.

And Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will be overjoyed to learn Sow’s asking price. Due to his contractual situation, Frankfurt will be forced to accept a €15 million bid during the next transfer window. That works out to just £13.1 million.

In recent months, Arsenal has considered signing expensive midfielders such as Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and West Ham’s Declan Rice. They will, however, most likely cost more than £70 million each.

Instead, Arsenal could try to sign just one of those £70 million Premier League stars and also sign Sow for £13.1 million. This would save Arteta a lot of money, which he could use to improve other positions.

Sow, unlike Caicedo or Rice, may lack Prem experience. However, he has proven to be a reliable midfielder in the Bundesliga, and he should do well in England. In addition, he has Champions League and Europa League experience, which will be necessary if he is to shine in an Arsenal shirt.
