Obed Akampurira, 34, the family head, Innocent Ainamatsiko, 9, Patricia Ainembabazi, 7, and Peterson Aijuka, 18 months, were all killed.

Olivia Birungi, Akampurira’s wife, is recovering from burns at Itojo Hospital. According to Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira, Obed Akampuriira had recently returned from detention in prison on murder charges.

According to Kasasiira, preliminary police investigations reveal that arsonists locked the family inside their home and set it ablaze with gasoline. He claims that by the time the rescue crew arrived, the four had been completely burned.

Police retrieved a matchbox from the deceased’s doorway, he claims. According to Kasasiira, authorities are still looking for the arsonists. The fire is believed to have started at 3 a.m., according to Benon Tukahirwa, the Nyaburiza village publicity secretary. Neighbors were concerned by the cries from the burning house.

Tukahirwa claims Akampurira had recently been released on bond after being held in prison for his alleged role in the murder of his neighbor and boda boda biker, Seth Akansinguza Masaja. According to Tom Muhoozi, a deceased’s neighbor, the arson incident could be retaliation.
