For the 2021/2022 academic year, Makerere University management has mandated that all first-year students report with a laptop.

According to a letter from Makerere University Academic Registrar Alfred Masikye-Namoah, this will be an important tool that will aid students in their studies.

In the letter, Masikye stated that “all freshers MUST have laptop computers as one of the key equipment for study purposes for their programmes.”

The institution, on the other hand, was unsure if students without laptops would be allowed to register.

This is the first time that Makerere University students will be required to bring laptops to class as a necessary tool.

Makerere University’s first-year students are anticipated to report for orientation week on January 29, 2022.

The orientation week will last seven (7) days, from February 4 to February 4, 2022.

Arrangements are established throughout orientation week to allow freshmen to meet and be addressed by Key Officers, Wardens, and Student Leaders who welcome them.

Freshmen are also given the opportunity to become acquainted with the University’s essential facilities, such as the Library, University Hospital, Games and Recreation Facilities, and so on.

All first-year students should attend orientation and ensure that they are registered first centrally and then with each of their particular Colleges/Schools/Departments/Halls, according to Masikye.

“During this time, all freshmen are required to report to their respective colleges for daily meetings with University officials beginning at 9.00 a.m. “Orientation programs for their colleges will be issued by college principals and registrars,” Masikye stated.
