Airtel Uganda recommits to the Rwenzori region

The telecommunications business also stated that they wished to give back to the region in order to return it to its pre-flood state.

Airtel Uganda recommits to the Rwenzori region Telecom operator Airtel Uganda has recommitted to the Rwenzori region through corporate social responsibility programs as well as increased connectivity in the region.

The business commissioned three masts, donated two mobile ultrasound scans, and inaugurated an Airtel Money branch in the district during an event conducted on Tuesday.

“Three mast sites have been installed in Kikorongo, Kambeho, and Kyanjuki to improve network coverage in the region. “The Kanjuki site is specifically designed to help tourism in the region,” said Brenden Kachenje, Airtel Uganda’s Sales and Distribution Director for Growth Markets.

“At Airtel, we are aware of development drivers, with telecommunications occupying a prominent position among the top five. In keeping with the government agenda 2040, reliable and inexpensive telecommunication services are a proven economic and social growth driver through digitization, financial inclusion, and communication.”

Seasonal floods in Kasese District recently wreaked havoc on health services, particularly for pregnant mothers, raising the risk of maternal death.

The telecommunications business also stated that they wished to give back to the region in order to return it to its pre-flood state.

“Through the Airtel Safe Motherhood initiative, we have deployed two ultrasound scans at Rukoki Health Center IV and Nyamirame Health Center IV, as well as donated Mama Kits and masks.”

In 2018, Airtel announced a Safe Motherhood program in Uganda, which includes midwife and birth attendant training as well as the use of a mobile ultrasound scan to reduce pregnancy-related mortality.

Joshua Masereka, the Kasese district deputy RDC, welcomed Airtel’s assistance to the area and thanked the firm for coming to their aid.

“Many Ugandan communities deserve every opportunity to better their living conditions. We welcome the involvement of private firms as the government of Uganda continues to work to create these opportunities. Allow me to congratulate Airtel on its continued contribution to Uganda’s deliberate growth by guaranteeing the availability of dependable and cheap telecommunications services throughout the country,” he said.

“We also welcome the Safe Motherhood intervention, which will help expectant mothers in difficult-to-reach places. With such improvements in the health, among other sectors, we can appreciate the creation of technology such as the Mobile Ultrasound scan, allowing individuals to obtain improved medical services without having to travel large distances, since midwives are able to move closer to pregnant mothers.”
