A 27-year-old Turkish international footballer died in a horrific vehicle accident. On Tuesday morning, about 9 a.m. local time, Ahmet Yilmaz Calik was driving on the highway when he lost control and crashed.
The automobile is believed to have overturned as it exited the highway.
Despite the fact that emergency personnel hurried to the site, Calik was pronounced deceased at the spot in tragic circumstances.
Calik was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the collision.
After graduating through the junior teams, the defender earned eight senior caps for Turkey between 2015 and 2017, though he did not play at Euro 2016.
He was a member of Konyaspor until his sad death, having joined the Super Lig team from Galatasaray in 2020.
“We are very saddened by the loss of our football star Ahmet Calik, who has won the love of our supporters and our city since the first day he arrived to our Konyaspor,” Konyaspor tweeted in support of their famous centre-back.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to all of us, particularly to the family of our football star Ahmet Calik.”
“I have discovered with extreme grief that our national football star Ahmet Calik, who plays for Konyaspor, died in a traffic accident on the Ankara-Nigde highway,” Turkey’s youth and sports minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu stated.
“May God have mercy on Ahmet Calik, a member of our national squad who passed away recently.
“My heartfelt sympathies go out to his family, Konyaspor, and the entire football community.”
Galatasaray, the Turkish national team, and Calik’s first club, Genclerbirligi, all sent tributes on social media.
Calik joined the Genclerbirligi program when he was 11 years old in 2005, and he turned professional with his boyhood club in 2011.
Before his three years at Galatasaray, he made 109 league games for them over six years and signed a contract extension with Konyaspor in November.
The Anatolian Eagles are presently 10 points behind Trabzonspor in the Super Lig.
Calik played the entire 90 minutes of Sunday’s 1-0 loss at home to Sivasspor, which would be his final appearance for the club.
