World Cup 2026

After losing to Peru, Venezuela’s chances have faded even more.

After 35 minutes, Christian Cueva scored the game's sole goal after he pounced on a stray pass and beat the Venezuelan goalie.

On Sunday, Peru defeated Venezuela 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier, relegating their opponents to the bottom of the South American qualification group for next year’s finals in Qatar.

After 35 minutes, Christian Cueva scored the game’s sole goal after he pounced on a stray pass and beat the Venezuelan goalie.

Tomas Rincon of Venezuela was sent off three minutes later.

No other goals were scored, though Peru replacement Christofer Gonzales had a goal disallowed in the second half.

Venezuela has gone eight games without a win and sits at the bottom of the 10-team table with four points, two behind Bolivia.

Peru is now tied for seventh place with Paraguay on eight points.

The top four teams qualify for Qatar 2022 automatically, while the fifth-placed team competes in an inter-regional playoff.
