After an ambulance catches fire on the road, the patient, nurse, and attendant perish.

On Wednesday afternoon, three individuals perished after an ambulance they were traveling in caught fire along the Kasese-Fort Portal road, including a patient, nurse, and attendant.

Emergency care teams were transferring a patient from Bwera Government Hospital to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital when the ambulance registration number UG 291M in which they were traveling caught fire while in transit at Kibiito in Bunyangabu district, according to the Ministry of Health.

“Five persons were on board when the fire erupted in the patient cabin, according to our Fort Portal emergency response team.
The fire killed three individuals in the patient’s cabin: an emergency nurse, the attendant, and the patient, according to the Health Ministry.

The two other people in the ambulance’s front cabin, including the driver and another attendant, escaped with severe burns but were taken to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.

Robert Asaba, 53, the patient, Peter Baluku, 36, a nursing officer of the Bwera Government Hospital, and an unnamed attendant were among the dead.

A team from the ministry’s emergency medical services headquarters was dispatched, according to the ministry.
