The match between Rwanda and Benin was originally scheduled to take place on the fourth day of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, but the Confederation of African Football has since changed its mind. In a letter dated March 21, 2023, the body revoked the approval of the Huye stadium due to a lack of accommodations with a minimum rating of four stars on a global scale and rescheduled the game for the General Mathieu Kérékou stadium in Cotonou. Today, however, it has chosen the Pele stadium in Kigali.
According to a letter dated March 24, “CAF demands that, in extraordinary circumstances, the match between Rwanda and Benin be played at the Pele Stadium Kigali (Rwanda), Tuesday, March 28, 2023, on the strict condition that no fan attends. For the following 48 hours, the Beninese cheetahs will have to go to Kigali.
