Senegal and Mozambique defeated Benin in the first two rounds of the AFCON 2023 qualifying matches, and this Wednesday against Rwanda, Benin came dangerously close to suffering a third loss.
The first goal was given up by the Cheetahs in the first thirty minutes on a Mugisha goal (14th). They exerted effort to come back, leading to numerous scoring opportunities. However the Amavubis, who were numerically outnumbered starting in the 61st minute, were repeatedly saved by their goalie, occasionally by the goal posts and particularly by the ineptitude of the Beninese strikers.
In the 80th minute, Steve Mounié ultimately breaks the tie with a very good shot. Without a winner, Benin (1 point) and Rwanda (2 points) depart. The second meeting between the two countries will take place in Cotonou on Monday because Rwanda lacks a venue permitted to host its match for the fourth day.
