A car dealer has been arrested for scamming customers.

Hussein Tizikoma, a resident of Iganga municipality, was arrested by police in Kiira region on Wednesday for acquiring money under false pretenses and scamming his potential clients.

Tizikoma was apprehended in Busei village, Iganga municipality, after a tip from one of his victims who had been following his activities for the previous two months.

 

His arrest comes as a result of accusations from three auto buyers who each paid him ten million shillings after he promised to sell them saloon cars earlier this year, but they had no idea where he was.

 

Tizikoma, a well-known vehicle dealer, is said to take money in installments from potential car purchasers, but when they finish their payments, he allegedly switches off his phones and vanishes.

 

Shaban Mugwana, a resident of Jinja’s Bugembe ward, claims that Tizikoma accompanied him to a Kampala-based car bond in April to view an Isuzu advanced series vehicle.

 

Mugwana goes on to say that he was supposed to pay 65 million Shillings in vehicle fees in three months, but Tizikoma allegedly vanished after clearing the first installment.

 

“I was supposed to clear the vehicle dues in July this year, according to the agreement I signed with Tizikoma,” he recalls, “but after paying the deposit cost of 19 million Shillings, which was even receipted, he was never approachable again, and I decided to engage the authorities to track him down.”

 

According to Kiira region police spokesperson James Mubi, the suspect was working with vehicle bond owners in Jinja and Kampala to dupe naive victims into believing their selected automobiles were available, only to cut off communication after receiving payments.

 

Mubi also recommended the general public to double-check with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) before buying any vehicles from people or vehicle bond warehouses.
