A 22-year-old man was detained for enrolling at LDU using fake academic papers.
On Monday, Kasozi allegedly went to the office of the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner-RDC to submit his application for consideration in the ongoing recruitment of Local Defence Unit-LDU personnel.
A 22-year-old guy was arrested in Kagadi district for reportedly submitting forged academic certificates during a recruitment exercise for the Local Defence Unit (LDU). James Kasozi, a resident of Muruha cell in Kagadi district, has been named as the suspect.
On Monday, Kasozi allegedly went to the office of the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner-RDC to submit his application for consideration in the ongoing recruitment of Local Defence Unit-LDU personnel.
Kasozi, on the other hand, was determined to have fabricated the O level certificate he showed to the panel. He was apprehended and taken to the Kagadi Central Police Station, where he confessed to dropping out of school after finishing Primary Seven.
According to RDC Kagadi Lilian Ruteraho, the suspect would be prosecuted with forgery after police investigations are completed.
Last Monday, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced the recruitment of another 10,000 Local Defence Unit (LDU) troops across the country. Starting on August 23, 2021, the recruitment process will run roughly four weeks. The applicants must be Ugandan citizens between the ages of 18 and 29, be medically and physically fit, and hold a UCE or artisan certificate, as well as have a clean criminal record.
There are more than 25,000 LDU recruits across the country, the majority of them were recruited in 2018 in response to an uptick in crime in various sections of the country, including the assassination of some high-profile figures.
