The United People’s Democratic Party has received 500 tree seedlings from the Million Trees International Organization in order to increase forest cover. Brig Gen Emmanuel Rwashande, the Chief of Civil Military Cooperation, received the gift.
Million Trees Company donated mangoes, oranges, and guava tree seedlings to the UPDF as part of its corporate social responsibility to mark the 41st Tarehe Sita Anniversary.
Rwashande praised the organization for its environmental efforts, noting that the donated fruit seedlings will benefit both the Elgon region’s health and the environment.
On behalf of Million Trees International Organization, Dr. Gibril Owomugisha stated that they plan to quadruple forest cover from the present 12.4 percent.
Such projects, he claims, bring peace dividends to communities.
The Elgon Region will host this year’s symbolic Tarehe Sita Anniversary festivities, which will involve small public works and sanitation operations.
Representatives from the UPDF Chieftaincy of Political Commissariat, Defence Spokesperson, and others from Million Trees International Organization were present at the handing of seedlings at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs headquarters.
