Reports of a brawl between Maj Gen Kandiho and other police officials have been debunked by the police.

Police have refuted accusations that the Joint Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Abel Kandiho, and senior police directors are at odds over his protection at Naguru as false.

On Monday, certain media outlets stated that Gen Kandiho, who was recently appointed as the Joint Chief of Staff, and other Police directors had a spat about his security.

According to reports, Kandiho, the newest UPDF commander to be named a Police director, wants his army “commandos” to be allowed to provide protection at the Naguru Police headquarters, a move that has purportedly caused him to clash with other directors who are opposed to the move.

However, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said in a statement released Tuesday morning that the reports are false and that the public should take them as such.

“We wish to categorically deny the false and malicious charges made against Police Headquarters’ security details and protocols. We also want to make it clear that the security measures at Police Headquarters are carried out in compliance with the rules and directives for the protection of all Police Headquarters premises,” Enanga said.

“It’s multilayered, and the commander cantonment, from the Counter Terrorism Directorate, oversees it properly.” His main goal is to prevent or eradicate any recognized dangers, risks, or vulnerabilities at all headquarters buildings, as well as for employees and guests.

Our computerized monitoring system of cameras and alarms, as well as other covert and overt teams, assist him in intervening in any unauthorized activity at or near Police Headquarters. The specifics of which can’t be revealed.”

VIPPU personnel from the Directorate of Counter Terrorism are in charge of the senior police leadership’s safety and security, according to Enanga.

“During escort, at the residence, and when traveling within the country, they protect the safety and security of their principals.” They have the necessary abilities and competence in identifying and preventing threats. Protective security squads surround all members of the highest leadership.”

Any further protective improvements, according to the police spokesperson, may be extended depending on the threat assessment.

“As a result, we are pleased of our existing security standards, which have contributed to the creation of a safe and secure working environment at Police Headquarters.” The tighter convergence and working connection at the top has helped to the delivery of our operational, investigative, and intelligence goods, according to public feedback. As a result, we will continue to work together to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the police.”

The police spokeswoman, on the other hand, urged journalists to always act professionally by conducting research while reporting rather than relying on personal biases and beliefs.

“As a result, we demand that the false and harmful media story be removed immediately, as it may have legal ramifications.”
