The scholarships are funded by contributions from Utrecht University alumni and the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Fund, which was founded by the university.

Requirements for the Utrecht Excellence Netherlands Scholarship:

To be considered for the for a Utrecht Excellence Netherlands Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must belong to the top 10% of your graduating class.
  • You must not hold an EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch study grant and loan system.
  • You must have completed your secondary school and/or bachelor’s degree outside the Netherlands.
  • You must have applied for an international master’s programme with a start date of 1 September 2025.
  • You must have applied and been admitted to a UES-eligible bachelor’s program commencing in September 2025.

Duration and Reward of the 2025 Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Master’s Scholarships

The scholarship for Utrecht Excellence may be given as:

the tuition price, or the tuition price + the annual income required in connection with a study permit, as decided by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
Scholarships for two-year master’s programs may be extended for a second year.

Scholarships for Undergraduates

Selected candidates are offered a scholarship ranging from €5,000 to €17,000 per year for a maximum of 3 years.

How To Apply for 2025 Utrecht Excellence Netherlands Scholarship

To apply for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship, interested and qualified candidates should;

  • Apply for admission to a bachelor’s or master’s program.
  • After submitting an application (or applications) for a UES eligible bachelor’s or master’s program before the stated deadline, non-EU/EEA students will have the opportunity to submit an application for one Utrecht Excellence Scholarship.
  • You will see the UES application(s) in your OSIRIS Online Application account dashboard.
  • Click view/edit for the UES linked (related process) to the program you wish to apply for, upload the requested proof of belonging to the top 10% of your class or personal statement, answer the questions, and submit the application.
